Kipling was the master of propaganda for the British in WW1. This article seems to suggest that he sort of accidentally helped out a bit. In fact he was in charge of ALL of the output of British newspapers regarding WW1.
He commenced directing the UK propaganda effort in 1895 and worked as overseer for The Times in the runup to the Boer War, and then thereafter following the Jameson Raid, which he helped to coordinate. All through the Boer War he was disseminating propaganda, especially concerning the concentration camps set up on the veldt. These killed 27,000 women and children and old men, proving to the Boers that they could not protect their families. Kipling spread the joyful news that Kitchener and Roberts were "feeding the poor people". It was one of the most thorough and successful campaigns ever mounted in warfare.
