If you do not find the a77 limiting your photography I'd suggest you invest in some nice glass instead.
I have both and I agree with with Simon's view. The AF on the A99 is faster and more accurate for action shots than the A77. The AF-D works well and my success rate for BIF is much better.
I find myself reaching for my A99 more often than not. The details, dynamic range is really great. High ISO is so much better.
But yes I use good glass and that makes the difference as well. Given the choice I would opt for glass over body.
